Septic System Inspections

The function of the septic system is to hold the homes waste water and then disperse it into the ground without causing adverse effects to the ground sub-surface water.

A complete septic sysem contains the following elements:

1.) A sewer pipe from the house to the tank

2.) A septic tank

3.) A distribution system

4.) A leaching system

Testing A Septic System

There is two testing procedures available to the home buyer.

1.) SEPTIC DYE TEST  (Performed by PSE Home Inspection)

A chemical dye is introduced to the septic system through the bath room toilet or another drain in the home. A controled amount of water follows the dye into the septic tank and is disperesed out of the tank outlet side. A re-inspection is conducted days later to determine sepetic breakout. Evidence by a red colored dye in the soil down stream from the septic tank indicates the ground is not excepting the waste water. PSE Home Inspection will add a statement to the inspection report indicating that at the time of the inspection, there are no signs of septic breakout.

2.) VISUAL TANK INSPECTION (Performed by a contractor)

The contractor will unearth the tank, have the contents removed and visually inspect the interior of the septic tank, check for wall/floor/top of the tank cracks and the condition of the baffles. The contractor will interview the home owner and review any and all Health Department records that are available for that home. When the entire process is complete, the contractor will issue a written report to the client.
